I have a 97 F-350 that I am trying to get the front disk brake rotors off of. How do they come off? I have the wheel off and the caliper, but the rotor won't loosen. Is their something that needs to come apart in the hub or something else that needs to be loosened. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Yes u have to pull the hub off, there a sloted ring nut that u need to remove. But u need a speciel wrench for it tho. After u pull that nut off the rotor will come off.
ok, so I have them all back together, and I bled the brakes. Now it won't stop braking. The pads are braking against the rotor all of the time. What causes this and what do I do. Thanks.
On my twhen it did that i change out the brake oil. Then i took a wire brush and ran it through the slide pins.Im not sure if u have slide pins or not. Then i regreased the pins and reinstalled. The pads are always going to touch a little, but this should not be a great amount.
The wheel will not turn very well at all. When I drove it down the street they started to smoke on both sides pretty good. So I would say the pads are more than just touching the rotors. Any advice you can give would be much appreciated. Could it be that there is still some air in the system somewhere? Or is it something else. When I installed the calipers on the rotor I had about a 1/16 of an inch on either side, it wasn't like I had to force them on. The wheels spun fine until I bled the brakes. Now they will not spin freely at all. Any Ideas. Thanks guys.
i would try to bleed them down somemore. sounds like theres some crap in the system not letting the system relive pressure. check all your lines to make sure there not twisted or kinked also. how did the fluid look that was coming out ?
Well I finally got the brakes done yesterday. I went out and bought new calipers for the thing. I installed them and they worked perfectly after being bled. For some reason the old ones would not let the pressure off of the rotor after the brake pedal was released. I am sureprised since the truck only has 61k on it. Thanks for the help.
