i was considering using kerosene in my 97 since it is 2.38/gal and diesel is 2.68/gal but was told not to run straight kerosene but it would be ok to do a 50/50 mix or should i just pay the .30/gal difference and go on any help would be great.
new poster on here this site is great!
very bad idea, kerosene has been refined farther than diesel and doesn't have the lubrication properties of #2 diesel thus your pump and injectors will not be lubricated properly. Also when they blend the fuel with #1 fuel in the winter I get about 2-3mpg average less fuel economy, and the one time my wife started to put kerosene in my truck she put about 8 gallons in it, before noticing that she was on the wrong pump, and called me I told her to fill it up with regular deisel so tht was 28 gal of diesel to 8 gal of kerosene, and I got the worst fuel economy out of that tank I had ever gotten (dropped it by 5mpg) I would hate to see how bad it would be at a 50/50 mix but bet it would eat up that price difference.
