1740 and 0741 codes
As stated previously in this forum, the first symptom the truck presented was a 'Service Engine' light. Code check showed p1740. Per this forum, took it to my friendly Ford dealer. The TCC solenoid was changed. Light was still on. Took it back.
The wiring to the connector on the left side of the transmission has been replaced as has a harness in the pan. Right now, the light is off but the dealer says that the trans is producing both a 1740 and a 0741 code. The light will return. I have faith.
The dealer says that the problem could be in the torque converter, which will cost $1,100 to replace, or the PCM, which will cost $750. Also, if the PCM is replaced, lots of other codes have to be set. Things like the keys, for instance.
The dealer has been in touch with the 'Ford Tech Hotline'. They don't know what it is either.
What I know for sure is that I'm out more that $600 and the truck isn't fixed. No matter what they would have you believe about the electronic problem diagnosis on late model vehicles, it seems that the guys in the shop are still guessing, replacing parts to see if the problem is fixed, like we used to do 40 years ago.
I have to find out what the hourly rate is. It must be astounding. Most of my expense is labor.
