i have a 2001 f150 and i have a strange probelm with my heater/AC blower fan.
frist the air gets hot when its suspose to and cold with it is suspose to but at times not always just at times when i turn the fan swith to a setting it doesn't blow any more air out. doesn't matter if the other switch is set on panel, floor, or window. you can hear the speed of the fan increasing but no air comes out. I really an not sure were to attack this problem any ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks
Can you feel the air come out anywhere when you turn the fan to a faster setting? Does the air come out where you have it set to...floor or defrost or vent or whatever?
yes the air comes out at the proper place but only at the speed of having the fan swith off so the flow doesn't incress when you turn the fan up. it sounds right i mean you can hear the fan speed increassing but no more air.
i felt arond at the other vents and under the dash and i can't find any more air coming out at any place it shouldn't????
not this isn't all the time just when it get in a bad mood i guess cause some time it works just fine.
I think I'd start by removing the blower motor and check the fan. I've seen them plugged up when mice have built a nest in there.
Not likely but someone may have installed a pollen filter kit and the filter could be plugged. If someone added that it would be under the passenger's side of the dash.
still having an issue with were to start i don't think any thing is plugged i have made the observation now it is more like somthing is overhearing and causing the air flow to stop as it only does this on trips that last 2 or more hours of constant driving. like i say it always "sounds" like its is working fine the blower is running its just not pushing any air.
I'm wondering if maybe there is a restriction in the A/C evaporator or line and the evaporator is freezing up which blocks the air flow.
The guys in the A/C forum which is further down on the main forum page may have some answers for you.
huntforfunnfood: did you ever solve your problem with the blower fan? I am now having the same symtoms you describe and was wondering how you fixed it... In my case however, I have noticed that the problem is associated with engine acceleration and with more acceleration comes less air flow almost as if the air is being redirected and as soon as I let off the gas then the blower is at 100%... This problem is also not limited to the a/c setting as just having it on the vent setting produces the same result. When at engine idle the blower works just fine.

redrumybronco no i haven't figured out what my problem is but mine has nothing to do with acceleration i don't think mine is more of a if it is one for a while it just stops almost like a over heating and throwing relay but if it cools off it works again the weird thing is it isn't like the blower stops running i can still hear the blower changing speeds with the moving of the switch but no air comes out
i have read several other post like yours that seem to have a relation to acceleration might try to search some more as i can't remember what they did either
Hey Reddrum,
I'm having the same problem that you are and it does it only when the truck is acceleratiing. If I'm checking it out in the drive way not under a load it doesn't happen. Have you found a fix.
Let me know
Mark
kerdog: I have not found a fix for it yet but I know it has something to do with one of the vacuum lines. I read on another thread where this guy changed out his battery and somehow messed up a tube in the process and funny thing is that soon after I changed out my battery I began having this problem. I checked out the vacuum hoses by the battery and all seem to be in good shape. There are some that are hidden in wire loom that I have not checked out yet. On my bronco I had a similar problem that was easy to fix but only because the vacuum leak was very obvious. Let me know if you have any luck.
Guys, this post brought back memories. The problem I had was that I kept getting hot air when the theromostat is on cold. It tends to happen when I hit a bump on the road. The truck was under warranty but after 4 dealership visits and a brand new AC installed, the problem persisted. I got tired of those least minded mechanics over at the dealership, I decided I was going to fix the problem.
I removed the whole dash to get to access the heater door. The plastic hinges on the door broke loose and the door was just flopping around in the chamber.
This is a big job. It involves removing the airbags, the dash and a few other things. Nevertheless, it can be done by a handyman.
I bought a new door from the dealership for about 25 bucks and that was 4 years ago.
