i just bought a tach for my buddies truck, and i'm not really a ford guy so i have a problem. there is a green wire coming out of the tach that i am supposed to attach on the positive side of a coil, but then i remembered these motors have 2 coils so i have no idea which one to tap into. if you guys could shed any light on this i would be very grateful

alright i should've been more specific. it is an aftermarket Sunpro tach from autozone on a 1995 Ranger. the truck doesnt have a tach from the factory so would i still have to tap into the Tan/Yellow wire coming out of the PCM? where is the PCM located on this truck?
It should be behind the passenger side kick panel. Let us know if that works for you, if not I'm sure we can come up with some other suggestions for you.
The tan wire is also available at the ignition module that is bolted to the side of the intake. I was having tachometer problems with my factory tach and it turned out that ignition module was the culprit. Consequently, the 89 to 92 ford rangers are prewired for a factory tach so if you wanted a clean look, just grab a factory cluster from one of those trucks and bolt it in. 93-94 trucks have physically the same cluster but have a different voltage regulator making the earlier models more desirable for swapping.
sorry I should have read a little closer, most of that info is of no help for you. The truck is still pre-wired but the only cluster I'm sure that will swap in is a '95
