Hey "77GTLB" and welcome to the club. I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news....... ....but YES they are limited to 100 MPH also. Ford told me that it is relieve them of any liability in the event of a crash. However as I told Ford,"You are not paying for the truck, I am. So in effect, I am liable and not Ford". But in any event, they will not remove the limiter . There are things on the market that can do it for you though.
while my 04 screw with the 5.4 is limited to 100 I have seen some posts on here where ppl said that from the factory they had NO limit wish I had there setup . Now with that being said do I need to go over 100 mph??? the answer is no but it just irriates me that my truck has that 120 on the speedo and some body at Ford made the decision to limit these trucks. why you might ask ? because at some point in the past you can rest assured that some idiot ran there vehicle wide open and got in a wreck and some jury gave them money
you guys sure its at a hundred? i could have sworn i got it up to 110 or 115 before it kicked in... wow when i think about it it seems fast maybe it was 105. the speed limiter is because they dont wanna pay to get better tires on the car. they cant get it going as fast as the tires max incase the tires blow before the rating or they overdrive the tires i think. cant wait to get rid of my limiter whenever i get better tires and then chip the truck.
I wouldn't trust General tires either at over 100 mph either.
Ford KNOWS the tires on the truck were built by the lowest bidder.
Unless a tire is rated for the speed you are going at, there is an increased chance of thread separation and a subsequent loss of control at high speed, especially if a tire is not properly inflated.
If you wanna go fast, remove the limiter but please go get better tires (H rated and above). H is rated for 135 mph I believe, and Z rated are even higher (I forget the actual number).
there is no set number for the z rating i think its just above 149, they dont say how much higher than that though. then for the exotics theres the w and the y which are good for something in excess of 170 and 188 or so.
And you would need to exceed 100MPH in a pickup truck because...........?
as I said before there is no reason that I can think of off of the top of my head its just the simple fact that it irriates me that Ford "made" this decision for me , personally what I want to know is what the difference is in these trucks that some ppl seem to have no speed limiter and others such as my self do. I know that my truck will only run 98-100 how do I know this because I decided to see what it could do
Last week when I check out the max on the truck I punched it..... I took it up and held it for maybe ten seconds just to make sure it had topped out....... so then I set it down to 120 kph and kept on down the highway... not 30 seconds later do I see flashing red about a k back......time to get sick...... gear down and drop to a buck, and slip to the inside of three...........coming,coming,coming,and...... GONE.
More than likely they had better things to do......
maybe those people were going downhill or something cause i dont think ford would do different settings for different trucks unless they came from out of the country. i have the latest pcm and im stuck at 105 or so.
I had the speedo up to 103-104, that was coming off a hill, but yeah, acceleration was no more. Makes those street races from a 90mph roll kinda tough to win.
I've never had a car with a governor on it before.
The factory tires on mine are BFGs, not general. I believe they're rated up to 118 or thereabouts.
