ignition system 79 f150
I need help. I have a 79 F150 4x4 and it won't start. it gets plenty of fuel and has spark. the truck trys to start but when i let go of the key the ignition goes from start to run it dies. it has an electronic ignition and i have tried a new moduel, start relay and new ignition. checked what connections i could think of and all okay.what next i'm in a bind. thanks for any ideas you might have.

Ck for a rubbed through broken wire in the engine harness.
1979 F350,4x4,NP435,5:13 gears,Detroit locker in rear with hardened shafts,ABR in the front,L&L Ladder Bars,360 with 428 crank & rods,390 HP heads,Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch,MSD Ignition,39.5x18 Boggers,bucket seats out of a Lightning,& a Southern Body that is perfect.
1997 F350 PowerStroke 4X4,36 Inch Super Swampers, Strait Piped, Chiped, Propane Injected, LUK Clutch

Try jumping 12 volts to the coil + with a 14-16 guage wire from the battery +. Then try and start it. If it starts and runs the problem is in the power wire from the ignition switch, run position, to the coil +. It actually is a resistor wire and they tend to burn up after a "few" years causing the same problem you are describing.

hello, i think you might be saying, when you turn the key it will start until you let off the key. if that's the case. ignition switch
may be bad. mine would almost start, until you let off the key. it was
