So I finally got off my lazy behind and went to my somewhat local Ford dealer and test drove a fully loaded 2006 F-350 DRW with the 6.0L auto. with teh chrome on the mirrors, etc. The sticker price was 51 and change and they said they could give it to me for 42 and change with the Ford family plan. Now IMO would be the best time for me to buy. I just traded in my 2003 DRW larait (see my gallery for picts)for a 2005 Vic which I can't stand since the first week I took it home (I hate cars but I at the time didn't want to get another truck at the time due to the 6.0L problems I was having). Nonetheless, they let me have the truck for the day, and I have to say I was very impressed she purred like a kitten the whole drive. I am going to see if I can get a deal with some monthly payments that aren't too crazy. I've had the vic for 5 months now, and can't wait to go back to a truck. Should I go for it?????
Well, back with some kinda bad news. Right now my payments on the Vic. are $558 a month for 6 years. My buyout of the car is roughly $27,000 and the car is worth about $17K. If I were to trade my car in now my payments a month would be through the roof ($900 + per month) me being 19 can no way afford that going to college full time and working part time. My salesman said its best to wait about 1 year so that I'm finiancially enough into the vic. to get out of it with less $$ per month. So I'm going to wait it out for the 2007 MY 6.4L TT engine, as I'm sure many of you are doing now anyway. I hope it's worth the wait . . . . . . . .
So on a lighter note, how are you guys doing? Havent been here in awhile but I knew I'd be back soon
Welcome back! Yeah, you're doing the right thing to focus on your education. Keep those priorities in line. You'll be in a truck soon enough.
The vic aint so bad. Good Luck in school, Tim
19 years old huh? And I was wondering if you just had a baby face. The smart thing is to just hold on to that car for a good long while and get your education and finances set straight first. It would be one thing if you were talking of getting into a base level truck - your not. For another, those crown vics are some really stout dependable cars, and if you've been getting by with one for the last six months or so - you don't really need a truck anyway.
At your age it's all about wants. Need has very little to do with anything. I'm sure that if it were me in your situation six months ago, there's simply no way I'd have bought a crown vic - I'd simply go with a base 5.4 SD in the absolute worst case scenario. But for me it's a NEED. I'm sure if someone like me had tried to convince you at the time to go with ANY truck at all you probably would not have listened - you WANTED the crown vic. Now you have it and you want a truck again. See the point I'm getting at here?
Give yourself time to mature. It's not a matter of trying to be insulting, it's just a fact.
Immature decisions made now can cost you a whole lot of grief later in life. Forget thinking that another year's worth of payments will help much either. That salesman is full of it. The car will be a year older than it is now and will have more miles on it as well, add to this the fact that most of your initial payments are interest payments - you'll be in deeper than you are now. You'll never be right side up in that car - either sell it privately now and take a smaller hit - preferrably on an affordable gasser, or do the smart thing and drive it till it's worth dirt - build some credit, save some money, get educated, then get what you want.
How was you ever able to afford the first truck in your gallery to begin with? I mean no disrespect, but it's not possible going to college, only working part time, and only being 19 years old (probably 18 at the time). Outside of a family business which had been established for years prior, I know of no good paying opportunities available to people of that age/ experience level - at least none good enough to afford wheels like those and the insurance note which goes with it. And if this is the case - money should be no object - just trade now.
