Iac

Before I get to my agenda, I want to say thank you (ahead of time) for your time.
Then, I want to say, I tried to copy and paste my message from word and couldn't do it.
DUH !!!
When I copied the message, and came to this frame, right clicked to be able to paste.
Pasting wasn't an option.

Oh well, I'll re-type my message, and maybe someone here can tell me how to "bring" a message here by copy & pasting ??????

NOW, to the gist of my agenda.

I need to replace my IAC Idle Air Control valve / "stabilizer").

When I called for a price for a new IAC unit, "they" asked if it is a 4 wheel drive.
The IAC unit for the 4 whell drive costs $20 more (or more).
The prices are a wide range.

I do, in fact have 4 wheel drive.
I am wondering if "it" makes a difference.

I am wondering (in my mind) if "they" actually made a different IAC part for 4 wheel drive, and the 2 wheel drive, or if it's the same part (actually), and "they" gouge us.

I worked at G.M. for 35 years, thus the below example.

I can remember when "they" made the same part for Chevy's & Cadillac's.
The parts were identical, except one had a Caddy part number, and one had a Chevy part number.
AND, the Caddy part, A-L-W-A-Y-S cost more.
Same identical part.

AND, for the sake of conversation, I bought a part for a VW (a long time ago). The VW part was in a VW box inside a NAPA box. Each box had "their" part number on "their" box. I paid less at NAPA than to buy it at VW.

GO FIGURE.

Now, I have a couple of part numbers (acquired at this venue, last night).
IAC Part #'s:
Borg Warner 28944 or 28947
NAPA (Echlin) 229574

Which one(s) (actually) work for my particular truck ???

'98 Ranger / Super (4.0 L)
4X4
Automatic
W/Air conditioning

While I await your replies, I am going to remove the old part, and give it the old cleaning maneuver, just to see what happens after that proceedure.
Can't hurt much of anything, I am thinkling.

If you know something you want to share, I will GREATLY appreciate all help.

Thanx, Gene

Welcome to FTE!!!

I can't imagine the IAC being different since the enigine is the same. I checked an online site and they only list one for both.

I just checked Autozone's site and it's the same part for 2 or 4 wheel drive. $55 in stock.

I don't see why it would be different, unless it had something to do with vaccum-pulse hubs (?). I would cross-reference it at several other parts dealers first.

Same part, regardless of the 4x4 system or anything else.

P.S. Welcome to FTE!

Thanx Guys.
I couldn't for the life of me understand why the IAC would be differnet for 4X4, except to gouge us guys.
Just like for a boat.
Put boat in front of anything, and the price goes way up.

I gotta say to "Rocklredge".
You take some fantastic pix to help us out.

Thanx !!!

Well, I'm gonna go get an IAC for a 2 wheel drive truck and be done with this project.

Thanx again, Gene

I usually take the mfg part number and run it on napaonline in the box for "not a napa part number" and see how many are referenced. That's how I saved over $100 over Autozone's price for a P30 chevy rotor. And yes, you can cut & paste. Just use the edit menu button of your browser instead of right clicking.

Thanx for the heads up, Rich.
I wanted to post on a couple of web sites, and type once.
I am not the rock in the box, BUT, I can learn.

NOW, I wanna share.
I went to "Pep Boys" and got my IAC. ($60).
None of the 3 part numbers I got at this venue was the part number on the box.
It was a Borg Warner (22972).

I tried the cleaning maneuver (on the old part)(Mine wasn't that dirty).
The sound was still there (not as pronounced).

I installed the new one.
The noise is gone.
It's not that hot outside, so I will need to wait 'til this afternoon, before I feel confident the problem is solved.
I feel (in my heart) it is fixed.

Thanx for all the help.

/Gene
