OK Gang, I'm to the point where I'm ready to install a carpet and need some guidance. Since I do not have a "overhauled" budget, what I want to do is get a pre-cut carpet kit that will make it's way back under the seat and to the back wall. The current floor has the hump from a 4-speed, so I'm guessing and need the confirmation that a kit for a pre 79 4x4 should do the trick. Any additional input or suggestions from the experienced would be appreciated.
Mike, carpets were not an option in '65. I don't know of an after market item that is formed to fit but replacement mats are available. Like Henry used to say about the Model T, " You can have any color you want as long as it's black." Same for the mats. I had carpets put in my '40 by a local auto upholsterer and they look great. I don't know what the cost for the carpets was because he did the whole cab and didn't break out the costs. Good Luck, Steve
The carpet kits currently offered, to the best of my limited knowledge, don't go the whole way back to the cab wall. Beyond that, I've had several people complain about the poor fit of the pre-made kits.
It's a pretty simple floor and a small area, so I'd suggest you discuss your needs with a couple local upholstery shops. Unlike 'upholstery', carpet isn't that costly. I had an entire sports car done, custom cut pieces in black loop pile, for not a lot of money (it's been several years, so I won't quote the price as it's outdated now). You can pick your color and type of carpet, get a better fit, and be much happier in the end.
