Those rare hood ornaments?

Just out of curosity, what is the story on those hood ornaments that resemble a "bird" that apparently went on the raised groove on the front of the 1953-56 truck hood? They are obviously rare and are drawing big dollars when they show up on E-Bay.

I have heard they were a dealer option and simply a sedan hood ornement fixed to a truck..... I don't know for sure.

Speaking of hood ornementation, I'm still in search of a set of 56 F350 side hood ornements - anyone have any leads?? I'd be glad to trade the 56 F100 set that I have - they are in good shape.

Here's a pic of one.

Supposedly, they are for 53-56 trucks only. And since trucks used to be built for work there wasn't alot of extra fancy stuff, like hood ornaments.

My '54 and my '56 both had them. Neither is a custom cab.

Maybe someone with one of those "accessory books" can cross this part number and see what it says-SK 3AAA 18244

This is from a 1956 chassis parts and accessories catalog, copyright 1955.

Hood Ornament: Chrome eagle, BAAA 18244-A
Electric shaver: 12 volt, B6A 18250-A
Reflector: With flags, 8C 18286

It also shows that these items were available: Spotlight,Fuel tank locking cap,Governor,Tow hooks,Windshield washer,Fire extinguisher and bracket, outside rear view mirror,Grill guard,Turn indicator (it seems nowadays where I live you don't have to use them just slam on your brakes and turn),Heater (two types),Safety seat belts, Seat covers,Rear splash guard bracket,Radio.

The reflector kits are on Ebay all the time. The shaver is the rarest of all.

I don't know how rare a hood ornament is for a 56 C-750 but I have one, I didn't know they made one for a COE till I found this one and looked in my books and found out it was OEM, it's not much to it but it looks cool.

These are RARE! I've seen a few on trucks over the years. The one thats on ebay now is mine. I found a NOS one and bought it. Someday I'll get the nerve to drill some holes and mount it!

I'll probably regret selling this one as it would be cool to have it on my driver and one on the BBW

This is correct. 53 to 56 F100's did not come with Factory ornaments like the bird one. They are from the car line and were a dealer installed option.

Fred come on!

How can you say that when I have the box for the NOS one and it says fits all trucks except parcel post.

The part number is in the parts manual and I have pictures of them in the sales brochures.

It is specific to the truck only and was a dealer installed option and I have a NOS one here to prove it still in the BOX!

I had a lightly pitted one on a custom cab '56 F600 I parted out. I got desperate for cash and put it on the bay with a BIN for $150. I think it lasted about 2hrs.
