Should be way more sites than you need. Just Google in: Hot Rod Forums, Street Rod Forums, Modify Chassis on 48' Ford, Custom 48's, etc.
I think Hot Rod Magazine has a forum also.

Here are a few site I know of:

http://groups.msn.com/FordFlathead19...pgmarket=en-us-The MSN flathead site-You have to register to participate and sometimes they have problems with site

http://www.jalopyjournal.com/-Known as the HAMB board-I don't go here often, this is a pretty obnoxious board and the guys there can get quite rude.

http://www.fordbarn.com/ The Ford Barn-I have my homepage set to this site. There are some very informative people here, it's a friendly place. They have five different discussion boards. I highly recommend it.

Just make sure you go to the streetrod forum on fordbarn - there's a couple of crusty old codgers on the V8 forum that'll burn your shorts for asking the question you're asking. Anything but stock sets them off. On the otherhand, they haven't been set off for a good week or two - ask away. Just duck

The other sites Bob listed are custom friendly.

Hey guys, newbie here. I just inherited a 1950 ford truck with a flathead all original from my father. He took really good care of it and it only has 30,000 miles on the truck, and it was kept in dry storage since the 70's. No rust on it anywhere and the body is an excellent shape. Thing is, I really am more into the custom hotrod scene. Does anyone make a narrowed rear clip to put in this truck, and what rack and pinion and front suspension would be best to put in. How much should I expect to pay for a custom paint job on a body in such nice condition. I was thinking of doing something kind of wild, maybe some tribal flames and a three stage pearl paint job. Also, I really like the Lamborghini V-12 engines. Would this engine and a 6 speed manual transmission be doable. Thanks guys. Hopefully I can get this project done fairly quickly with your help, and be tearing up the streets soon.
Hmm maybe I should register.

Hi! yes I do suggest you register. Pro street (narrowed rear clip) is a dying styling trend because of impracticality for anything but a show/race vehicle. You can put just about the widest street tire under your truck by just tubbing the inside wheel wells. No frame narrowing required. Lambo engine??? anything can be done, but you must have an awful lot of spare $$$ laying around, the engine alone will set you back more than most of us have in our complete truck, tranny would be a serious source/adapter fab problem, and you'd end up with an extremely nose heavy truck that would do nothing well but burn up rear tires. Stick with front engine rear drive donors for your drive train, if you have that many bucks and want something exotic I'm sure D-C would be glad to sell you a crate Viper engine/tranny.

You took my question serious? I was just replying to the fact that was said about old guys on the ford barn site getting on your case for anything that is not original. I thought something like putting a lambo engine in a original ford truck with a three stage paint job and wide meats would get their attention.

We do see such questions here from newbies all the time, so I did take it serious! Was he talking about the OF's on this THIS forum?
Nope he was talking about the OTHER OFs on Ford Barn, you didn't rouse up THIS OF much, since I'm a darksider too.

kenseth17,

I read you first post this morning and almost had a heart attack. Especially hearing it belonded to your dad. I did start a reply but my computer locked up and I gave up for the time. I saw you had a post on the other subject about John's '48 and you know where I stand on the subject. I don't think a lot of the other people on this site realize the rarety of good solid iron in our neck of the woods. It's a real find when you can get a hold on a vehicle like yours and John's. Add to that, the history of your truck and I can only see it adding value for you to keep it stock.

Just my opinion.

Bob

Totally made up guys, I don't have a 50's truck. I just stray from the paint and body section and wisconsin chapter from time to time and check out other sections. I know how rare something rust free is around here bob, Some things I've worked on are good example of the rust you find around here, and they were newer then 1950's also.

I would Bob if I had something to work on right now, or the money to fiddle around with my truck and try to get it running again. I just made it through packer traffic, duhhh, and guess I'll get ready to watch the game, and will probably go to the car show in Green Bay at brown county fairgrounds on Sunday. Sorry to give you guys a scare, was meant to be a joke to the ford barn guys and guess I didn't clarify clear enough, maybe I should register on the Ford barn forums.

You don't have to register at Fordbarn. That's why some of the tough crusts are over there. They're also computer paranoid - afraid someone will use the info against them. You know, its on the news every day...............

For the most part, its really a great bunch of guys with a ton of flathead experience and info on all the cars that Ford used them in. Tons of trivia. Every category from Model T's to A's, 32-53 V8's, OHV engines, and streetrods. Even a ladies forum for the garage widows.

With what you're considering you'll (judge1971) probably feel more at home at the MSN group site or HAMB. HAMBERS believe, act and think its still 1955 +/- Sorta like a time warp. All makes and models but all pre-64. Wanna set them off, ask about a car newer than 1964 and hang on......

MSN group is just a bunch of guys still trying to keep their flatheads running - more daily drivers in that group I think than any of the other boards. You'll find guys with show cars, daily drivers, drag racers and Bonnieville speedweek guys as well as a few that drive the old iron cross country on a regular basis.

Several of us here at FTE participate on all these other forums. It's all good!
