Which engine sound do you prefer? Poll

I also posted in the 7.3 forum

Just wondering how many people really want a quiet diesel or how many people want to know they are driving a diesel and want to hear that bad boy running.

I dont want one outragousely loud, bud i heard a new duramax and i swear it sounded like a gasser. And its rumored that the new powerstroke will be quieter than the 6.0!

I know that we are all ford guys here, i think, but I would like to know which engine sound you would prefer. (Please be honest, after all, we are only talking about engine sound)

A diesel should sound like a diesel - not like a filtered gas bag. My guess is that most wifes - and some husbands would not allow a diesel in their driveway if it sounded like a diesel. Marketing ploy.

Now, I owned a 7.3 diesel and a 6.0. I loved the sound of the 7.3, but there is something about the sound of the 6.0 that I like even more.

I like the sound of my 6.0 when she's sittin and purrin. But when she's good and warmed up, I really love the sound when the horses are unleashed. Especially when towing a load. Something about it. I comment here because I just returned home from work, after being stuck there for the whole week. Man was it nice to drive my truck. Anyway, I had forgotten how awsome she sounds until today. Makes a guy feel real good and grin alot.

I was saving this post (#1000) for something cool, and was so happy after my drive home today, that this thread seemed appropriate. I'll avoid posting any more for a while to savor the moment.

When I bought my 04 I wanted the quieter idle; even though it wasn't pilot injection it was quieter. I traded that quiet EGR & ICP idle strategy for zero romps with a flash upgrade.

I would like to have the quiet idle of pilot injection. The Duramax is quiet and the newer 5.9's are quiet. I'm sure my fellow campers would like it if I had the quiet idle when arriving in a campground late or leaving early in the morning. Ditto for my neighbors on cold winter mornings.

However, there is no way I want to go back to the original quiet idle of my 04 and the other problems......

The Cummins does sound good, but you can't beat a 6.0 w/ 4" exaust. I don't even know how to describe it (not that most of you don't know what it sounds like). Not like a big block gasser and not like any diesel I've heard. It's just bad.

Well I guess I've saved my first post for this one.

I use to like the nice quiet sound of my PSD, unfortunately after the last flash it got considerably louder. I thought it was great that I could get all the benefits of a diesel without that loud, attention drawing, wake-up the neighbors, knocking.

Actually I like the sound of a Honda Insite, i.e., no sound

I was told by the dealer that the 6.0 was much quieter than 7.3. It's strange but my 6.0 is louder! The sound of the 6.0 is so much more refined. I like the sound of that turbo whistle.

Love the sound of my 2005 F-250

Love that 6.0 sound. But you have to roll down the windows to hear it. When she's all buttoned up and the A/C is running (practically all the time in Florida), you can't hear a thing.

I was running up I-85 last week to Atlanta, having to pass a line of slow moving 18 wheelers. Gave her about three quarter throttle and let her rip. Next thing I know, I look at the speedometer, and I'm pushing 95 mph. Not a shake, shimmy, or quiver. This truck will get you into trouble!

The 6.0 is my first diesel so I am somewhat biased, but I gave my dad a ride in my new F250 (he has an older 7.3) He was quite impressed with how much quiter the 6.0 is. He told me that in his truck he has a hard time hearing anything other than the motor...

I too love the purr of the 6.0 when she is at idle warming up in the mornings.

The issue with this poll is with the cummins.

You talking the old 12 V, the old 24V or the new Cummins 600?
They all sound VERY different. The 600 is by far the most quiet.

I love the sound of my 6.0. My dads 7.3 is louder but I had my first experience in a drive thru last week. You guessed it.......the person over the mic asked my to turn my truck off. I refused, told them to turn their volume up and then left and went to another joint
