I have a good friend that just purchased a new 2005 F350 CCLB SRW 4x4 Lariat 4.10 L/S... this truck has the V10 and is loaded with all the bells and whistles (even the Conti-trac's!!).
Now here's the deal, it is hard to believe, but it is true...
He bought this truck after going in to purchase an F150 Supercrew and walked out with the above truck instead. He brought it home and said it was way too big. He drove it a little bit, and I mean a little bit. Then he took a look at the truck's computer and saw that he was getting 8.2 mpg. Then he decided this truck has got to go. I saw him earlier in the week and he asked if I was interested in it. He hasnt given me a price yet, but I am guessing about 30K. He then said to take it for a ride, so I did and it is the exact truck I was going to order but then kicked around the idea of waiting for the '07's. When I drove the truck out I noticed it had over a 1/2 tank of gas and saw the odometer had 156 miles on it.
What do you guys think, buy it or walk? 30K for a 2005 F350 with 156 miles.
What kind of honest mileage are you guys getting out of your 3 valve V10's? With gas going toward $3.00 a gallon... is this still a smart buy? I am aware this engine has to be broken in and it will increase, but how will it really do?
I just bought the sb version with the 4:30 LS. Yeah, I'm not happy about the price of gas, but I didn't buy it for mileage. I'll just have to scrimp in a couple other places to save $$ for gas. The price sounds really good!
Buy it , you will love the thing and show me another 7500 pound gas truck that is as good on fuel as the Ford V10 is . A 5.4 in that truck might get you another 1 MPG max but it won't give you the thrill of a vehicle that has the power to make you smile.
If this guy is serious about selling a vehicle after putting so few miles on it , well let his loss be your gain. I have the same truck and it is my all time favorite and I am even thinking of keeping it long term. For the last 30 years I have bought a new one roughly every four years ( this is my 8th new Ford pickup ) and this is my favorite by a country mile. Take care and good luck.
I've been getting 11 - 11.5 around town with mixed hwy/city driving. You better talk to your buddy. My guess is he paid $35-40k after taxes and registration.
same here as per mpg's, buy it gas prices we have to live with no choice there. but rides like that don't come around very easy or very often, i would not give up my 250 for the world now. it's turned me back into a teenager. at least in mind.
I get a solid 10.5 with mostly stop and go. If I do at least 1 short highway trip (60 - 70 miles 70-80 mph) i get a solid 11.5 I have been driving like an old man it only adds about .2 to .3 (even driving like an old man I go WOT at least 2 or 3 times a day). For the first 500 miles or so it was getting under 8.5 and that was driving it like they recomend for break in. My computer is pretty close to hand calculation, the computer is always shows just a little bit less then when I calculate by hand.
The F250 is big but the turning radius is great (I have a cc with the short box 4.10 LS auto 4x4). On a normal city street a 3 point turn is easy. I love my truck I wish it got 22 to 25 like the dodge desiel guys say the get but what are you gonna do. The only problem with the truck is it is so much fun to drive. The wifes Acura gets at least twice the MPG but when ver we go anywhere if I grab her keys she frowns and says why not take the truck!
Don't believe the MPG on the computer. If you calculate by hand you'll find that it probably gets 1-3 MPG better. 10 city 14 hwy with mine at 75 MPH average. I can hit 15 MPG if I keep the revs at or below 2000. 4.10 gears in mine. That truck is a steal by the way.
Thanks for all of your quick responses and your honest miles per gallons! He showed me the check he wrote for the truck and it was $36,??? OTD. I think he got a good deal on it with all the rebates that are available right now for the '05's. I am going to talk to him over the weekend and see what we can work out.
Thanks again guys,
Hope to be in here more often in the future,
Scott
