2wd's get much better mileage than a 4x4. lots of power lost thru the transfer case and more weight to pull around with the front differential and such. My 01 gets about 13.5 on average.

my 2000 4.6 gets close to 18mpg. I have done only one test though. It is a 4x2...manual 5 speed...& has 3.08 gear ratio with aftermarket intake & flowmasters. The intake makes my truck go faster when going through the gears...it does not slow down as much ( hard to describe in words ) & made exhaust a little louder
