just got the Check engine light and had it scanned at Autozone. Showing a P0405 code. Truck has been running fine and continues to run fine. Any ideas what to check?
A P0405 can be a real pain to fix.
The common problems are broken wiring to the canister purge solenoid above and behind the rear axle, a bad canister purge solenoid or a plugged canister.
Had the same situation, dealer replaced Pressure line $10 to DPFE sensor, check your hoses to the DPSE they may be cracked or diconnected. Some other threads show pictures of the DPFE sensor, this may help
Racer guy is right, this can be a pain infact i am still fighting it. I have a 2000 F 150 4x4. I have noticed no problems with it the way it is. I did have a broken wire going to the vent solonoid. What i have ended up doing is just pulling the check engine light out. Farmers fix i don't recomend that to anyone though.
I don't remember what this code is, but from the post i'm guessing insufficient exhaust flow in the egr? If you have the ability to do a key on engine running self test, it makes this easy. disconnect the vacuum hose to the egr and hook a vacuum pump up to it. run the self test and watch for a vacuum to be sucked on the pump. if that happens, the solenoid is working. hook the pump to the egr with the engine running and try to open it. if it opens and the engine begins to bog/misfire, then you need a new dpfe sensor.
