Anyone who has done the door handle swap
<HR style="COLOR: #ffffff" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->If you have put on the Lincoln handles, or changed the drivers handle for any reason, I want your old handle, with keypad. I am working on finding a way to put a keypad on trucks that did not come with them as a mod. I can buy the new Lincoln ones fairly cheap, but I am hoping to get someone's take off for 30 bucks plus shipping. That's with the wire and pad. If no one has one, I will eventually get one on e-bay, but I hope someone will have a leftover and be willing to help this mod. If it works out as well as I think, I will be posting directions so others can do it.
Thanks
Chris
Not meaning to hijack the thread. The LT handles are around 60 bucks each shipped, and are painted. You can get several colors and they match the trucks paint (if you get the right ones)
I painted my door handles myself to match the truck. I mean my 99 had matching handles, why cant this one. I also painted the tailgate handle and mirrors.

CTFordGuy, I was told by a pretty reputable paint shop that attempted to do this, that paint will not stick to the dimpled surfaces and would promptly flake off. How's yours holding up?
I too have researched the LT handles and found they list for about $80 per handle (each once is slightly different in price) and under $50 for the tailgate. Labor is about $45 per pair and $25 for the tailgate. There is some question on whether the connector plugs for the keypad are the same between the Ford and Lincoln (be just like those high dollar guys to thow a curve).

In another forum, (sorry) they have installed dozens of them. Have not seen anyone post about a different harness?. Also list is not what we pay. About 40-60 per is the spread on actual buying. Why would you have someone put them in? An hours work for two doors, twenty minutes for the tailgate.
And it's fun.

Did not know this. But I did not like the dimpled look so I sanded all the dimples smooth. I only did it about 1 month ago and so far no problems. I fiqured that if it screwed up I could always buy new ones.
I am interested in getting these for my King Ranch. I wonder if the Ford white is the same as the Mark LT's? If someone can get these or have any pictures, please post.
All - I did all 5 handles on my '05 Screw Lariat. All attachments/electrical connections are the same - and they fit the same way. The LT door handles were about $45.00 each with the tailgate handle coming in at $26.00. I ordered them through a Ford Dealer who gives us a "forum" discount on all Ford OEM parts. His number is 800.570.5554 ask for KC and tell him Brad sent ya. For '05 owners - he can get the '04 Glossy "B" pillar trim covers - I have them installed and they go nicely with the gloss LT handles, etc.
Dont pay to have these installed - as they are fairly easy - once you complete the 1st one. And the tailgate is so easy you'll be laughing at how simple it is to replace.
Glad I could help and remember - you do need to remove the inner door panels to get to the handle nuts, etc......so if you are planning on changing out your speakers, installing Dynamat, etc. - now's a good time to do it!
Another note that I have not seen anyone post about are the door jamb screws for the handle buckets. You remove the two circular rubber plugs (carefully - don't rip them) and underneath you will see two screws that need to come out to remove the stock handle. On the LT handles - Ford included threads in only one of the holes so if you want to reinstall with both screws you will need to remove one of the "threaded buckets" from the old handles and screw it into the empty hole in the LT handle. I removed them by using a chisel and hammer to start backing them out - then pliers easily got them out the rest of the way...to screw them into the LT handles - simply insert the screw into the threads then use your socket wrench to screw the assembly into the LT bucket. I know it sounds confusing - but you will see it when you remove the stock door handle buckets....good luck and post your results!

Thanks publicly for your generous (very) help with the donation of the handle, Hotlap. I hope to be able to post soon on how guys with Non-keypad trucks can put the LT (or other keypad bucket) into their XL or STX non-keyless trucks.
A lot of guys want to fix up the lower end models, and the LT handles should be doable on their rigs, with lock/unlock functions.
Nothing worse than putting on a keypad, then having to explain to someone it doesn't actually work...
Not a problem for you guys with the deluxe trucks of course, but my project is for those of us in the 'cheap seats'.
Here are some pics in my gallery of my truck with all the black painted. I did the tailgate first, pass next and finally drivers side. I did the calipers as an experiment before I did my Mustang. I am not sold and did not paint the Mustang calipers.
Hey CT - just curious - what year/color is your Stang?? I have an '05 GT (black of course) and did paint my calipers....personally I don't like silver that Ford uses and would rather the calipers just blended into the background which the black does very nicely.....unless of course I had genuine Brembo's - then I'd want them to stand out - don't really care for it when guys paint the stock calipers "Brembo Red"....
