Rotella?????

Has anyone tried Rotella or Shell diesel oil in the 300? I have heard that the cleaners and chemicals in the diesel oil will help clean out the 300 with no side effects. Anyone try it?

So long as you are not running a catalytic converter, diesel engine oil is better than oil formulated for gas engines.

Especially to be avoided are the latest in gas oils -- these have reduced anti-wear additives in order to make the modern cats last 105,000 miles instead of the 70,000 that used to be mandated (feds).

My pickup has had diesel engine oil in it for years.

all I run is 15w40, summer and winter

diesels run cats now too, it won't hurt the convertor unless your burning oil (which will hurt the convertor anyways)

uh..15W40 is a little thick for a gas engine.

i still dont understand why one would want to use it over a normal gasoline engine motor oil.

the cleaning agents and chemicals sounds like a mis understanding to me. motor oil is rated for a specific type of engine and use. maybe im just being very slow about this but from all my learning i have never heard its good to use.

I don't know what is in the diesel oil as far as cleaners and stuff but if it will help remove any kind of build-up internally why not use it. I recently had to change my oil pan gasket and the crank and main caps looked good but there was some thick sludge coating the pan. It has me wondering how the cyclinder walls are as well as everything else (cam, valves, lifters). If the diesel oil will help clean all that without out hurting the bearings and seals then why not use it?

why not use syntetic then? better lubrication AND still has the extra cleaners additives.

diesel oil is better in every way comapared to a regualr engine oil. diesel oil contains over 1300ppm of zddp a very strong anti wear additive. the limit in gas oil is 800. diesel oils are also much more shear stable and contain high amounts of calcium usually about 1700ppm and boron. the tbn is also much higher. a regualr enigne oil does not even comapre to a diesel oil. most diesel oils are dual rated ci-4+/sl.
