Check Engine Light

I have a 1996 Ford F150 XLT, Ex Cab, 4X4, auto tranny. My check engine light has just come on recently. It went off for a few miles, then came back on. Any suggestions or help, will greatly be appreaciated. Does Advance Auto pull the codes for you for free??????

The light is telling you there's a problem. Most parts stores will pull codes for free. It does not just go on and off randomly.

Cool Check engine Light / Help

OK,,,I went to Advance Auto Parts and they pull the OBDII codes, it read as follows:

DTC P0141
02 Sensor Heater
Circuit Malfunction
(Bank 1 Sensor 2)

DTC P0155
02 Sensor Heater
Circuit Malfunction
(Bank 2 Sensor 1)

Where is Bank 1 sensor 2 located, and where is Bank 2 Sensor located. I did see one sensor on the driver side manifold and the other sensor on the passenger side manifold. It looks like the driver side sensor would be easy to get off, but there is no room to work to get at the passenger side sensor. Any help or suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

Check fuses and relays first. It is unlikely (but not impossible) that two O2 sensors fail at once. Bank 1 is passenger side, bank 2 is drivers side. Sensor 1 should be the sensors in the exhaust manifolds, and sensor two is after the catalytic converters.

Fuse would likely be in the power distribution box under the hood, although I can't say for sure. I don't know a lot of specifics on the '96 trucks. The relay should click as the key is turned to the run position, and click off as the key is turned to off. You can test the wiring harness at the O2 sensor to see if 12V is reaching the O2 sensor. One wire will be 12V, one wire is ground, and there are two signal wires on each O2 sensor. The 12V and the ground wire is the circuit that has thrown the code. If there is 12V and a good ground at the O2 sensors, then the problem is in the sensors themselves, so they should be replaced.

Replaced O2 Sensors

I replaced 3 O2 Sensors at $50.00 a sensor. Thats what the codes said to replace when pulled. The check engine light was off for a short time, then came back on. I'm stuck. What could it be ????? Thinking I should have bought a Chevy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you test anything I listed in my previous post? It could be any of those things, except now you can rule out the O2 sensors themselves. The fuse would be the first thing to check since it is easiest to get to and one can see visibly when it has blown.

Did you test for 12V at the O2 sensors?
