Cool

Ok,,, had my mechanic pull the codes,,, it is still showing code P0155. The machine said something about a ground, but was getting 12V power. He turn off the check engine light with his machine, but after the engine cold down a bit, engine light came back on.

He also said he noticed a minor leak (anti-freeze) coming from a rear head bolt. He pulled the spark plugs and said they looked fine. Do you know of any sealant (stop leak) you can put in the radiator. Seems like these Fords have a trouble with head gaskets (98,000 miles on truck). I have a 1993 ranger with same problem. I still think I should have gotten a Chevy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Talking

at the time, the price was right for this rust bucket, what can I say. But I bet you one thing, I won't make the same mistake twice.

I have a '96 F250 Ligth Duty with the 4.9L that started exhibiting a similar thing last fall. I've had O2 sensors replaced twice. The check engine light goes away for a brief time, but comes back within a month. The truck has 184,000 on it and the mileage is slightly off, but still a respectable 17mpg blended highway and town driving. I'll probably try my own hand at running down the voltage tests mentioned here.

Ok here is the run down. Check engine light was on. Codes pulled where P0141 & P0155. Replaced all (3) O2sensors. Engine check light still stayed on. Pulled codes, only code P0155 showed. This time it said something about a fault ground. Mechanic checked both power and ground, said both where good. Put in another sensor to see if that sensor was bad. Still showed code P0155. He traced the wiring, and said it looked ok. Tested wires with meter, showed Ok. Mechanic said maybe the ECM is bad, said I should take it to a ford dealer. Any help at this point will be greatly appreciated.

P0155 O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 2 Sensor 1)

The heater circuit doesn't really have anything to do with the computer. The computer monitors the sensor to make sure it is at operating temperature, but the heater is just a simple resistor with nothing more than a power supply and a ground. Did he check the wiring of all three sensors?

I'm not sure if he checked all three. If another sensor was bad, would the code show that sensor? And if the ECM was babd, wouldn't the code show that was bad. Hate to take it to a Ford Dealer, and have them rake me over the coals!!!!

I doubt that the ECM is bad, but I suppose anything is possible. ECM's are expensive so I would make darn sure that it was the problem before just going out and buying a new one. OBD-II is very detailed in the diagnostic codes, so I would assume there would be another code for the other O2 sensors. The ECM is located behind the drivers side kick panel, but you get to it from the engine side of the firewall. There is a long plug with 100 wires or so going to it down near where the wheelwell meets the firewall.

My money's on bad connection, like ground. I'm at work and don't know where they get ground from but I'm betting its a common connector... but hey, gm has some good deals running. Sounds like a perfect time for Capt to take advantage of one.
