The message center has been acting up. It went out - blank.
When I get in to take it to the dealership, it comes on.
When I get back home, it's dead.
I called the dealership and told them what's going on and they say to bring it in and they will look at it. Gee, if it's working they will say there is no problem. Been there done that on some other issues.
Has anyone dealt with and "intermittant" message center or for that matter a dead one?
I was thinking of soem chicken bones to break the spell...............
This may sound really dumb but make sure when you are checking it out when it is not working that your head lights did not automatically come on as I believe this dims the message center. And depending on how dark you have your interior lights you might not be able to see anything. I know that when I drive into a parking garage during the day I can't see much.
Do you have the mini message center that just says door open and low fuel or do u have to full message center the has all truck information fuel econ. temp. driving time and all that that full one is much bigger too??
I just got a '05 F150 4x4 yesterday. I was driving around in it last night and my message center display flickered for a few minutes and then blanked out also. What did the dealer do for you to repair yours? Thanks!
I took it into the dealer and the service manager "saw" the blank message center and wrote up a work order. The service tech "saw" the same thing. They had to order the part. The part came in about 2 weeks later, brought it in and it was fixed.
The part was called an "instrument cluster" sorry I don't have a part(s) number.
Strange part about it all was the actual mileage on the truck was plus or minus 21k. When asked by the service mgr about the mileage I said around 21k. When I got my ride back the mileage was 21000. Coincidence? I don't know.
Jim, new cluster had to be built with the correct mileage in it before the dealership got it. The dealership ordered it with 21000 miles on it, the could have gone into the computer and retrieved the actual mileage from the cluster, but they didn't.
I had the feeling that "they" put the mileage in/on the cluster.
I wonder if this will be the "new" way of tampering with mileage as long as no one checks the computer's memory.
I remember when I traded in my 68 (XXX) that had 90,000 miles for a new 72 (XXX).
A couple of weeks later I saw my car in their lot with 35,000 miles on it. Went and talked to the used car manager about the car and he proudley said that it had 35 on it. When I told him that I traded that car in with 90k he turned white and developed a twitch. It was a beautiful.
The car was gone the next day. But I did get exceptional service.
