Question Engine Weight.

I am taking out of my truck, all in one piece, the engine and tranny.

1967 352 v8 3speed

What is the approximate weight of engine and tranny?

Thanks

I would put the tranny(stick shift) at 90 lbs, the motor: 600 or so?

I'm sure someone has the exact production numbers...but for a WAG method I'd say I'm kinda close.

If you're going to put your engine on a stand, don't skimp. Buy the beefiest stand you can find. FE's have been known to fold standard parts store stands. 600 sounds about right for a longblock without any accessories.

I have the "cheaper" stand only cause it was donated...LOL!!

I always make a wood PROP to help hold the crank snout as I torque heads/intake down. Keeps from things bob'n around too bad!! Or breaking off!

I have an old Lakewood, vintage unknown for big Ford iron, but I have a three leg parts store special for transmissions and shop rags that I bought used for $15.

JOS, I'm gonna have to weigh an engine one of these days, but from what I have read 600 may be on the light side, figure the combo in the 700-900 pound range, while leaning towards the latter. IMHO

You should ask my friend who helped me take my old 302 out...he dropped it on his middle and index finger. Yeah, 15 hours later in the emergency room, he had his fingers sewed back on.

Even they aren't sure, 3 weights for FE and one more for the 427SO.

Engine is out. 4 1/2 Hrs. no help.

I am building an engine stand should be done by weekend.

I will weight the engine and trany and will post my findings.

My 1/2 Ton hoist had a hard time lifting the weight.

Thanks to all of you for your information and help.

The engine and transmission together weights in at 810 lbs. with all fluids, alternator, air cleaner and starter.

Took out the manifolds, need to work out on 4 of the 16 bolts. Next, Start preparing the engine and engine bay to paint.
