Finally got a batch of biodiesel made and put it in my psd. The engine is actaully quieter and yes it does smell like french fries. Other than that, I noticed no differences. Have to get supplies for another batch now. Need to find a larger supply of oil too.
For a minute, you really had me thinking that (somehow) you got your truck to run on Moonshine.
Maybe not his diesel,BUT, you could run a gas engine on moonshine/gas mixture..............Fullcrew7.3 I'm glad to hear someone has got their truck running on bio-diesel!!!!! Good job!!!!!
I built my own system from some sketched plans I found online. That was either at journeytoforever.org or localb100.com. Mine is loosely based on the "Appleseed" processor. They also have recipes and directions for what to do if things go wrong. All very handy. I finally found a bulk supplier for methanol for the conversion, but the are 3 hours away. Costs a lot of fuel to go get the stuff to make the stuff to save money on fuel........
I still need a few more fittings to finish the wash tank and will get those next time I make it to town.
Moonshine, eh? Hmmmm, I wonder.......

I am looking into the homemade bio myself, how much does the methanol cost, and how much is needed?
Just do a search for any racing go kart shop that sells Briggs and stratton engines in your area. We all use methanol to run our engines. If there are any racing go kart tracks around your area just wait until they have a race and there is usually someone there selling it by the gallon. Its usually 5.00 a gallon.
hey fullcrew, is there a way you could do a write-up and post it here? i know theres TONS of folks on here including myself that would like info from soemone they know whose done the bio brewing. maybe take some pics? i'm sure someone on here could help set up some free webspace as well. i dunno, just a though if you had the time.
Hey phydeaux88, I just joined that forum (biodeiselnow) a couple weeks ago. It has a lot of regional chapters. There's even one here in Manitoba!
As for pictures, I'll try to post some of the processor at least.
As for the methanol, Vancouverpower, if you're right in or near the city you should be able to find it somewhere there. One of North America's largest methanol producers is located in southern B.C. It's called Methanex. Do a search, get their toll free number and they can tell you where your closest distrubutor is. I found a place in Winnipeg that will sell me a 45 gallon drum for $200 Can. That's the cheapest I've found. As for lye, I just asked my local Co-op hardware to start stocking it. I found it a Home Hardware, but the nearest one is 20 miles away in a town I rarely get to.
Redstroker, as to the write up, I'll maybe try to do something with my next batch and a couple of photos too. I ran into a problem with measurements on my last batch and ended up with an emulsion. The good part is that I also leaned how to break an emulsion. Not much fun though.
Right now I'm in the process of going back to work after being off for nearly 5 months due to an accident, so I may not have a lot of time. I'll try to at least get pics of the processor posted.
