With the costs of a new crew cab I think I will redo my old 79 F-250 2x4. I would like to make it a 4x4 & think cutting the frame and adding a F-150 4x4 front is what I want (coil spring for ride and turning). Should I keep the Dana rear or go to a 5 lug 9" or convert front to 8 lug Dana 44. Any input on whole project appreciated.
wow, it would be a big, big job to do that. I have a Crew Cab and I wanted it 4 wheel drive and a short box. What I did was find a supercab long bed 4x4. Six inches were cut off the frame in front of the rear axle and then it was welded back together. Now I have my 4x4 frame and my crew cab cab all I need is a short bed. Even that was a lot of work so far. I guess if you have the time and the $$$ anything is possible.
why couldn't you just get the front akle and the mounts for it and just put them on your exsiting frame and then just pu the axle in? that's what I was thinking of doing to my 2wd 78 f-150 but can't afford it right now.
Ice man 320 the crossmember under the engine will hit the front axle I think? 390 hog I don't think there was ever a 1/2 ton crew cab frame. What I am wondering is if it is worth keeping the Dana rear & swapping 8 bolt hubs to the front axle (and what all I would need to do this) or just changing the rear to a 9" ??
