I was going to put a pair of nasta stainless nerf bars on my truck but was told by somebody to go with black instead because of spotting or pitting after a couple of years. Being stainless I didnt think these would pit, but just wanted to see here if anybody here could tell me how their stainless nerfs looked after a couple of years. Is it something I should be concerned about? Thanks
I was very pleased. These nurf bars bolted in using existing holes on my '05 extended cab. The finish of the bars was every bit as good as $400.00 nurf bars I had looked at locally.
Thanks Eric, how long have you had them on there? any spotting or pitting?
They are stainless so that isn't going to happen. The only thing is that if I was actually rock crawling, these nurf bars wouldn't be able to support the weight of the vehicle. On the other hand, neither could any of the expensive nurf bars I saw locally.
Installation is pretty straightforward. The only trouble was figureing out which of the four bracket goes where. That took about 5 minutes but from there on out it was simple. Each bar is held on with two 1/4" stamped steel plates that have a painted on (rubberized?) coating. Each plate is bolted on with 3 1/2" bolts. Our Ford come from the factory with 2 bolt holes already drilled. Living in the salt belt, I didn't want to drill a third hole so I bolted mine on with only two bolts on each plate. This worked out fine. If you really wanted to go off the deep end, you could weld the plates on.
Any chance you could put some pics up of your bars? I was looking at that store and another one. They look like good bars and the feedback is very good, I'd just like to see some good photos.
About 2 years ago I purchased Westin platinum nerf bars for my 2003 F150. Westin says that the platinum chromed bars will not pit etc. But they say that is also true of stainless steel but say that stainless will discolor and not remain shiny.
BTW, the Westin chromed nerf bars look like the day I installed them but I wax them regularly.

Thanks.
I'm not big on cleaning so my stuff is dirty but here are some photos:
I just bought a left over 2006 that had the factory SS bars on it. When I cleaned it up today I noticed no discoloration, rusting or pitting. Not sure exactly how long they've been on there though. I've had it about a month.
