hi its ken from england again i miss my old 6cyl f150 so im after another one......
what are the diesel versions like say around 1990 compared to the v8 ones?
whats kind of mpg do you guys get?
whats performance like ? i had my 6cyl on eup to about 105mph but accelration wise was ok do the v8 or diesels accelerate ok?
mpg is importnant because petrol over here is now about $10 a gallon!!!!!
My 1988 F150 extended cab, 4 x 2, 302, AOD transmission, 3.55 LS gears, with about 95,000 miles, accelerates fine and gets about 16 mpg, using regular gas, and driving normally. It's great for driving, occasional hauling (I haul a boat weighing about 5,100 pounds including trailer). I don't know about diesel trucks.
Frank.
I have a 1993 f250 supercab, 7.3l, with an aftermarket turbo, 35" tires,5 speed, unknown gears. This truck has tons of power, and gets about 15 mpg, and has 274k miles on it. I'm much happier with this truck than any other truck I've owned.
thanks for replys i take it i will be lucky to get near 20mpg out of a ford petrol or diesel? interesting about dodge doing 28mpg are the fords generally more power/faster?
This was an old 90 dodge with a 5 speed 2wd. Those eras of cummins seemed to do good. Another buddy of mine has a cummins powered dodge and he gets 19 and its a 95 4x4, but that was with a car hauler hooked up. Not sure what it gets without the hauler. I mean cummins should get better fuel mileage than a stroker due to the fact that theres 2 less cylinders, and a lot less parts to turn.
I know several people with Cummins engines under the hood, in a broad range of years ('92 to brand new). 20-22 mpg is very common, particularly if you row your own gears. I think the better mileage from the Cummins is why Ford came out with the 6.0PSD. It was all about the numbers. The Cummins 5.9L and Ford 7.3PSD were close on HP and torque, but with 1.4L less displacement, the Cummins was killing the Ford on fuel mileage. The 6.0PSD has closed that gap, but it's still using 8 cylinders to get the job done, when Dodge only needs 6.
My 93 Ford F350 7.3 IDI non-turbo diesel 4WD crewcab got 20 miles per imperial gallon. 5 speed manual transmission with 4.10 gearing. I miss her dearly - "she" was torched by some local hoods. Still looking to replace her. She was slow on the hills but could run all day in the bush and burn very little fuel compared to my 2000 Ford F250 with the 5.4.
