i have known a lot of people that have owned the Dodge 1500 and they never stop complaining about the "cheapness" of the build quality....stuff just starts fallin off after a couple years......seriously...
[QUOTE=powerman88]Last week, I bought a true blue 2005 Ford F-150 XLT 4x4 Super Cab with an 8' bed, HD payload package, tow package, and the works! MSRP $37k. Marked down to $27k with the Ford Family price and rebates. It has just about every option you can want. I didn't find what I was looking for at my local dealers, but once I expanded my search on forddirect.com I found plenty. In fact, there were at least 15 of these within 2.5 hours of my home. I'm sure I could find more if I kept looking. A few dealers had 3 or 4 of the 8 foot XLT super cabs to choose from. You have to play around with different zip codes and cities large and small. If you give me your zip code, I'm sure I can find plenty of what you're looking for. Give it a try! Once you find a truck, just hit the contact the dealer button and the dealer will give you a call. It saves a lot of time. My dealer called me back almost instantly and I picked up the truck the next day. If you are doing any amount of hauling, I wouldn't settle for anything less than an 8' bed. As far as I'm concerned it isn't a full size truck unless you can fit a sheet of plywood in it. Ford is the best. F the rest. Good luck with your search.
I still haven't seen an supercab f150 around here with the 8 ft bed. There aren't too many on the lots. Is it tough to park? It would be a much more practical truck as far as hauling lobsters, but I'll just have to find one and drive it to see if it will be practical for around town driving as well. The 6.5 ft bed seems like a nice compromise between the parking and the hauling. On my Expedition I have the Reverse Sensing and it is the nuts for tight jams, so that would be a must w/ the 8 ft bed.
To be honest I like the Ford better, it is just a matter of being where we need to be with the money. If the Dodge was $1500 cheaper its a big difference to my company especially because we are getting 2 trucks.
Give me your zip code. I will find two for you! Or you can simply find a map of your home state and look up all the different cities on http://www.forddirect.com to find what you're looking for. You need the zip codes for each location. I live in Milford, PA and didn't see one at my local dealers either until I looked on ford direct and plugged in a bunch of different zip codes like Philadelphia, State College, Harrisburg, Scranton, etc. There were at least 15 in PA and plenty more if I kept on searching. The one I bought was brand new and made on August 5, 2005 so that was a bonus. I also looked into NJ which is only 5 minutes away and I found a bunch there too. Expand your search using forddirect. Then use the button to have the dealer contact you. It's easy. The 8' SC is not hard to park or drive. The truck also has a better turning radius from the previous model and the reverse sensing unit which is nice. In addition to the $3000 cash back rebate, I also got a $1295 tow and go rebate for the tow package. So there is your extra savings right there. Go with the 8' Ford SC you will be glad you did.

If you're looking at the Ram 1500.. You might check out the '06 MY 1500. A lot of improvements from the '05s.
I had a new '03 2500, 5.7L, auto, 4X4. It was at this point the best new car or truck I ever had. Not any problems, not even a shop visit. I used MC 5W-20 and had it changed at the Linc/Merc dealership.
I now have a F-350, CC, 4X4 6.0L. I like this truck. However, I must note that the Ram had better steering, and much better storage compaired to the F-350.
"I" think that the Dodge has a overall better quality, better feel and much more storage. The Ford is much larger in the back, and has more features. Ford gave me a better price and trade. I also have a '03 Merc Sable.
I did just what you said and found 2 equipped exactly the same at the same dealership. They had 8 ft beds, xlts and very minimal other options keeping the price pretty low. The one option I kinda wanted was the Reverse sensing, but it also didn't have a bunch of stuff I didn't need and therefore wouldn't have to pay for.
To the other poster, I don't think you can compare the turning radius of the new F150 to the F350 and Ram. The new F150 is an entirely different truck and has better handling and a better ride than the F350. Go to the truth about trucks and click on truth #5 handling. Ford beats Dodge in braking and handling. Isn't it interesting when it comes to the truth about trucks, it's as much about wo, as it is about go.
