Edelbrock 600 carb

This carb seems to be flat from 2000 rpm on up. I'm thinking of the barry grant 850 vac secondaries. Does anyone have any experience with this carb?

390, 60 over, erson cam, (.55I, .55E, 280,280),non ported edel heads, fpa headers, 9.7 cr, edel rpm intake., 3.25 gears, c6.

edelbrock performer products(carbs, intakes, cams) are for going slow. Try something a little smaller like a 750 or 770 SA. Heck my holley feels like it has 15-20 hp over my edelbrock.

I agree, 850 to much carb and to much money. About 750 is all your engine will ever need even with more cam.

check this out. I know it's a Mopar site but It's a similar size engine.

Here's Holley's carb cfm formula:CFM=CIDxmax RPM/3456. That assumes 100% volumetric efficiency(not likely with a street motor) so you need to multiply your result by 85% to 95% depending on the overall efficiency of the engine.85% is a safe spot for a mildly hopped up motor. So...(6000rpm redline)at 100% VE=698cfm; 90%VE=628cfm
FWIW on a similar 390 I had, I used a 650 Holley double pumper that worked very well. The present 428 needed more, so I am using a 750 cfm Holley vac sec.

And 6000 is way up there for the average street engine and even if it will run there, just how much time are you gonna spend at 6000?

If you want a Demon, then you should probably go with the 650(preferred) or 750 "Speed" Demon...

I have a 650 demon on my 390. Runs good on the street. But when I get in the mountains it gets a little sluggish on me. I am considering going with a 600 cfm.

well discman if 750cfm isn't enough, go get a dual quad intake and buy 2 1250cfm carbs. See how that works for you.

--stegmst--

Do you have a "Speed" Demon? According to the Barry Grant website, our trucks should be using the "Road" series Demon for daily driving, towing, etc. Unless you drag...the "speed" Demon might need to be de-tuned for your application...which could be part of it...

I've been looking into the "Road" "Trucker" Demon in a 625cfm. Still undecided...

--Anyone--

Why would dropping cfm from 650 to 600 improve the sluggishness stegmst is having? Does it have to do with the altitude and the thin air?

Thanks!

I think I'm just going to put a T-76 turbo on the engine, with a 750 holley - just for the fun of it. I'm looking for 800 Hp ( I have to tow a small trailer) hehe
