hoods

Are the 1948/50 F1 thru F3 hoods the same size? I have one of each and am restoring the F1. I picked up the hood about 8 years ago ( yes this is a long restoration and a longer story) Can't seem to make the hood fit and am wondering if it may be from a lager size?

'48-50 F1 thru F6 hoods are the same. Might just be bent out of shape. What area of the hood isn't fitting?

You can't remember from 8 years ago?? Shoot, I forget where I set items I had in my hand 5 minutes ago and wander in circles looking for them.

If they are the same then you are probably right about it being bent out of shape.
I played with it yesterday and after getting a decent reveal at the cab it seemed to long! The locking pin and hole miss by quite a bit. Maybe there is something I'm overlooking.....usually the case.

This might be a stupid question but are you sure the hoods are from the same year? The hoods are the same for the '48-50s, the hoods from the '51-52s are similar but are different in both apprearance and the latching system. All the hoods are the same for the repective model years, no matter the model size. Maybe the previous owner of your replacement hood switched it over to fit a '51-52. Just a few thoughts.

These hood have a bad tendency to "Spread" at the back if they're stored flat or even leaning up against a wall. It's the inner bracing at the rear that does it. Yes, the hood are the same from 48-50 and all models F-1 thru F-8 are the same size.

Also, on top of what Barry mentioned, these trucks were no great feats of mechanical engineering. I have never seen one that had all of the parts fitting together perfectly. After all, they were just trucks and were meant to work, not look pretty. I am sure many of the existing guys who worked on the assembly lines back then are amazed whenever they see one of the old relics still tooling down the road.

I still love 'em though!

Yes the hoods are both 48/50.....probably is the spread thing . I'll keep messing with it. Thanks for all the feedback
Anyone know why my location isn't shown like the rest of you? Most likely something I did or did not do. Anyway it's northern Idaho.

Got to drive the F3 yesterday to town and back.....gotta love it!

Driving them is the best part of all! Way to go....
For what it's worth, the hood on my 48 doesn't fit right either. Tends to lift a bit while driving at the driver's side rear corner.

We're practically neighbors then. Where in n ID?

You can add the location by clicking on 'user CP' at the top of the page, then 'edit profile' on the left panel, and finally scroll down the page until you come to 'additional information' and fill in the 'where you live' line.

Thanks for the location info....took care of that.
Actually live in Sagle just south of Sandpoint (40 miles north of Coeur d' Alene & 60 miles south of Canada).
