Several questions, actually

This is my first post here, so please bear with me...

I purchased a '89 B2 with 160,000 for $400. It's pretty rough as you can imagine, and I'm running into some problems. Any help I can get is mucho appreciated.

1) Truck occassionally won't start (grinding noise), but if I "bump" the key, it usually will start after 2-3 tries. I've had the starter out, and it looks good. I'm guessing the flywheel must be the problem, as there are some metal shavings to be seen. My question: do you have to pull the engine to replace the flywheel, and if so, how much would a mechanic charge for it?

2) My driver side power window will not raise and the motor makes a bumping noise (bump, bump, bump) when I try to raise it. I took the inside panel off and found that the window can be forced up. Once up, it will lower by switch, but it won't go back up unless I force it. It almost looks as if the "cogs" on the arm are stripped or something. Ideas?

3) The latch for the tailgate either broke or was pulled through the fiberglass panel. Can this be replaced, and will it work, or will it keep pulling through the fiberglass? How much would this cost to replace?

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

about the starter/flywheel it can be replaced with engine in place, although it is very involved. the tranny, transfer case, bell housing, slave cyl, clutch, and pressure plate all have to come out. i would live with the start problem until a clutch replacement was necessary. $800 - $1000 at a shop. i would park on slopes as much as possible and roll start to save the starter and flywheel ring. been there done that. good luck

I'm not an automotive expert, as you can probably tell by the simple questions. But the truck has an automatic tranny. Does that make a difference as far as replacement goes, and I am misspeaking when I call it a "flywheel"?

window motor

For the windows, its the motor, you have to replace the gear assembly inside. You can get one for about 25-30 bucks.
to do this, you have to pull the window motor out, pull the metal front plate off (1 screw) and them pull the gears out and put in the new ones, add some grease, and put er back in.
Should work good as new.

yes a flywheel is for a manual tranny. what you have is a flexplate for a auto tranny

My reccomendation for the rear Gate is to find a good whole one at a wreckers. If you want you can get one with the wiper and rear defogger to upgrade.,If yo udon't already have such ammeneties.I found woth Broncos,They have all the elecrtical connectors in place for optional Equipment. You just need the hardware. In my truck I found the provisions for the following:underhood light,Center and overhead counsel,Rear Gate stuff (wiper and defrost)and I think the connections for the inflatable Seats.
