Train Horns

I have an 04 CC Short bed. I wanted to know what train horns are the loudest and best sounding. I also want to know the best mounting location. Any pics would help.

I have to admit I've been tempted to install an airhorn. I'll be watching this thread for a bit. As far as what they soundlike, try the following:

I just finished my install today of a set of Grover air horns for trucks. Let me tell you that thet are very loud! I can't image the emergency stutter horn or the train horns. There is plenty of space along the frame rail to mount a tank and the horns. The tricky part is the compessor. Mine uses a very small non weather proof. I found just enough space next to the passager side battery.
I have heard some people have taken out thier spare tire to mount the train horns because they are so big. There is guy on the other board named shadowgrey who has some Great pics of his install.
The problem I have now is I just can't find a reason to hit my horn anymore!!!

They sound awesome. You will clear the way when you hit them. I think if you blew them next to someone on a bike, you might make them crash. They would definately crap themself.
I finished the install this morning. I drove down to the local high school because it would block the sound from the homes nearby. It would echo off the building it was so loud. All I could say is AWESOME! I came home with a big s#iT eating grin. My wife was just laughing. She could see how loud they were by the BIG smile on my face.

I got a good start at installing my Grover Organ Tone horns today (24-1/2 & 21-1/2 inches long). I got the compressor and the tank mounted, and located a place for both of the horns. Hopefully I can get the trumpets hung tomorrow. It took a while to find a good spot for everything, but after a lot of contemplation and a lot of measuring, I discovered I could mount everything without having to drill any holes in the frame, and I will only have to make one small hole in the cab sheet metal for the support for one of the trumpet bells. I had the local machine shop shear a couple of pieces of 3/16ths inch cold steel plate and had them bent in an "L" shape. One is for the compressor to sit on, and the tank sits on the other. I drilled holes in the plates to match existing holes in the frame and hung them with grade 8 bolts. Everything will be above the bottom of the lower frame flange, so there is no interference if the truck needs to be raised on the hoist.

I'm already grinning from ear to ear, and I can't wait to hit the button for the first time. When I get everything done, I'll get a few photos.

BTW, I got the horns and some of the other parts HERE (he has a few train horns too) and THIS PLACE has the best prices around on Viair compressors. I bought the 350C for 144 bucks and free shipping!

I'll be installing a pair of Grover stuttertones (LACoFD-sexy!) on my new 05 F350. After using them on various emergency apparatus, I can assure you, they will be plenty loud.

The web site where I got the tank says it is 3 gallons. I have a brand new 6 gallon tank available if anyone is interested.

I too have been thinking about a set of train horns, but I can't seem to find where to get them (other than a passing train...lol). Being from Florida, not only are most of these drivers deaf, but they are blind as well. If you can't see something as big as a SuperDuty coming down the road then you should not be behind the wheel. Hopfully a good scare will wake them up.

Mine only uses a 1 gallon tank. The horns I have are for truck and not the long emergency or train horns. The 1 gallon tank is plenty of horn blowing power for my set up.

I have a set of Hadley's air horns on my '05 Excursion. Mine is a V10, so there was room under the hood for the compressor, the tank underneath the body, and the horns are mounted behind the grille.

Blown Away

I have a set of Hadley horns. They're called "The Bully". I mounted the compressor, tank (1/2 Gallon) and horns on the driver-side frame rail mid-way back. I think one blast could peal an orange. A larger tank would be preferable to get the attention of the mentally challenged.
