Anyone out there using or have used the Superlift Truspeed to correct speedo problems after installing larger tires. If so does it work as advertised, how hard is the install, or do you have another reccomendation for recalibration?
I had the dealership recalibrate my computer when I got larger tires. Cost $60 for the recalibration. I don't know the cost of the TruSpeed unit, but depending on if you also want to adjust other settings in your computer, you may not need to purchase the TruSpeed and just have the dealership reset your computer.
What size tires do you have now? And what size/brand/etc are you going to and on what size wheel? The reason I ask this: tire manufacturers have a RPM measurement that is used in the recalibration when changing the computer for a new tire size. For example, when I purchased my Revo's, I printed out the page on the Bridgestone website that specifically stated the RPM for that tire/size so the recalibration would be accurate.
Some trucks can't be recalibrated with the sct, I don't know if the dealer can either. I do have the truespeed and it works as advertised. The install is pretty straight foward, tap 2 wires into the abs system and a power and a ground. There is an adjustment screw on the unit for recalibration, actually 2 of them for 2 seperate sets of tires. They supply a chart with tire sizes which tell you how many turns on the adjustment screw.
I run the SC on my '04 and it works great. I had to play with the tire size a little to get it right on, but it works good. I have 36's on the truck and had to set it for 38's. Used the GPS to verify and it's right on the money.
I believe all SD's can be recalibrated to a certain degree at the dealer. Dealers don't know it can be done in most cases. I believe the lowest RPM (rev per mile) the computer can take is 599. Rumor? Not sure. A 315 75 is 601 rpm. I just had a slight run around with a dealer here in Houston. Once I got the right person it was done. Factor setting was 646 if I recall, now set at 601. It was $100 which I think I got ripped off on but that's half the cost of a Truspeed and I'll never have any smaller tires on my truck so I saved $100. You could save more if your dealer does it for $60.
