hard brake pedal

I have an 86,6.9 ext cab,4x4. when I hit the brakes the pedal the truck slows down but I realy have to push hard to stop it ,whats the problem ? thanks

Have the vacuum pump checked. Vacuum pump belt? Vacuum pump hose? If you are not producing enough vacuum or losing it through some sort of leak, you will experience what you have described. I've had ti happen on an 88 F-250 7.3L and a 1990 F-350 7.3L. Good Luck.
