Oil additive

My fathers has a 1997 F250HD and it is getting some miles on it around 200,000 (by the way a 351..5.8) and he is wanting to put an oil additive in it. Can any suggest to me what might be the best additve to use. Thanks ...thestroker

Dont. Ford tells you not to use ANY oil additives.
If anything, try one of those high-milage oils.

well the ford mechanic told me to use the lucas oil additive, I take your word though that why I was asking for more info, thanks a lot

dont pour any crap in your motor. use a good grade oil, change as often as you want, and dont add any addatives. my 5.8 has 228,000 and runs like new. you dont need anything.

All an oil additive does is make the oil thicker. This will help some high mileage engines stop burning oil...but only because the oil is too thick to pass the rings or seap through the valve seals. And if it is too thick to do that, how is it supposed to get into the tight clearances that are supposed to be oiled?
