I also have about 24k troublefree miles on my 2005 PSD. I sometimes question why I bought it, but this morning when I pulled into the pumps I remembered. Regular unleaded $2.69 and diesel $2.39.
Must be nice. Around here, regular unleaded: $2.73, diesel: $3.09. The Shell across the street, diesel: $3.29.
Do not make the decision overly complicated. The V-10 has lots of horses, but lacks *****. Make your decision based on the truck's use. I'm a contractor and while I see many V-10s around the local lumber yards, it is not the V-10s hauling the BIG loads, i.e. enough pressure-treated for a large deck or full pallets of pavers. No offense to the gas guys,
Well I will take offense to that statement because I was a masonry contractor for 20 years and my Ford gassers never let me down delivering heavy loads of concrete blocks, bricks and gravel or sand to my customers. Sure the PSD will pull the grade faster with a load , but with an overloaded pickup, speed is not always your friend.
PSDs are great motors but many contractors get the job done with gassers and to say otherwise is to be misinformed.
I love my PSD. I have noticed that things have quieted down over on the 6.0 site with complaints and problems. I would say the '05's and later are pretty good. I have a late '05 and so far, no problems. But hey, I owned a late Olds Cutlass Diesel, my father even had a Chevy Celebraty Front wheel drive V6 diesel, and we both ran the wheels, literally off of them with zero problems. By the time GM got it right, the market was shot. So, I wouldn't worry about it. I saw this site before I bought, but it didn't change my mind. I love this truck like no other.
