I just had the Ford Gold Alarm put into my 06 F350, and when I use the keypad to enter it sets off the alarm. Is this normal or is there a problem with the install? Also I thought there was supposed to be a tilt switch on the hood, or am I just all confused. Thanks for any input.
Its not wired rite I had the same problem with my Ford alarm it was done by a guy who worked as a contractor for the dealership he said thats the way they work finally found a shop that installed it rite no problems since
Thanks for the reply guys. I thought something was amiss. They also didn't install the siren and didn't return it. I guess I will be back in on Monday to see if I can get it fixed and see what happened to the parts that came in the kit which they didn't use..

Mikey,
I had an identical situation to yours on my 2000 Expy with a Ford alarm installed by the dealer. The alarm would go off when I used the keypad. They wired it to the horn and left the siren out (which came in the package). Somehow they also monkeyed with the inside courtesy lights; they would go off when the doors were closed instead of staying on for 60 seconds or so. I took it back 3 times to have them fix it; they claimed it was normal op and that the siren didn't come with it. They refused to look inside the truck at the wiring or the install.
Funny thing was - the tech left the install directions in my glovebox. It clearly indicated the siren came with my model, and showed they installed it wrong. They didn't blink when I showed it to them, although they did say I "illegally" got a copy of it and had to return it (which I politely refused). They claimed it wasn't the model I bought, although the model matched exactly with what was on my purchase docs. I showed them that also, then they said Ford never includes sirens with any alarm anymore and that the install docs were wrong. To top it off, I found out later they charged me the price for the alarm for vehicles without keyless entry, although my Expy had keyless entry - they claimed the Expy was incompatible with any other model alarm. Lies, all of them. Unbelievable.
Like most people, I believe, after 3 attempts to resolve it, I finally had enough, voted with my feet and never visited that dealer again. I bought my other Fords (2 since) and service my trucks elsewhere.

Reason: typo
i purchased my kit over the parts counter as i get - 25%. The kit had a siren in it and the only thing missing was the optional relays that are needed to make a keyless entry out of the unit. If i use the key pad to unlock the alarm goes off. I had insisted on all the extra parts so they left the siren saying it's too loud and a extra wire harness plug set
My dealer has a outside guy do the install and he's been bsing me right along. As to his install the very next day in a snow storm i had to find why it would not start. he just cut and twisted the wires together and the ones going to the key had opened up. "The kit even had all the nessary crimp connectors in it to do the job correctly." Well as i was at work i opened it all up and used the new 3m type crimps with the heat shrink built in to make a great connect. Guess its back into gemsens web site and print out the wiring sheets and redo every thing my self.
As to my dealer i personally know the owner and the service dept is top notch we fix it correctly. The tech's treat my truck with care and respect. It even gets a hand wash every time in even for a 5 min. repair job. So i don't really want to go elseware
Charlie, I hope your dealer thinks twice about using that same contractor to do future installs for them. Any body that would leave electrical wires connected the way he did should not be allowed to work on anybody's vehicle.
thank you wrench. they no longer use him except to redo his screw ups that he admits to. I have the sheets on the wireing and will redo every single wire myself with the proper crimps and solder/heat shrink tubeing.
this guy was suposedly trained by ford to do the installs but short cuts every thing that the others in this thread complain about.leaveing out the siren. takes 5 mins. to install. the extra plug only needs 2 or 3 of the wires joined to the factory harness.
next time i'll do it myself. at least i can read the instructions.
Well, I got the alarm fixed so that it works properly. The keypad now shuts the alarm down and they installed the siren. Being real **** about my truck I don't like where they positioned the siren, but I will move that.
