excursion remote start !!!

I got a 02 excursion limited with the stock alarm. The alarm does control the door locks. I would like to add a oem remote start. Does anyone have any info on what is needed. Is it an add on or am I left with just the option of purchasing the Ford "GOLD" alarm package ????

Almost all the good systems will work with the factory keyless. I have been looking into getting one of the crimestopper setups that have the built in turbo timer.

Here is a good place to look

From what I was told the OEM one has a timer as well for the turbo ... it is a timer not by temp though

go with the FORD remote for simplicity. For cool down you just hit the remote start button while running and remove the keys. It will run 10 minutes or so. That is enough to get temps down.

I talked to one of the dealers in my area and all they really have to do is just plug it in. (BTW this is a Ford security system) The rep even went so far as to show me the module they had to plug in. It works with your existing setup, but if you get the remote start, you'll need a new key fob. Other than that, it's not all that compicated.

I have a Valet/Hornet remote start alarm.

If your truck has the factory "remotes"..it's not an alarm. It's keyless entry. While we have a PATS key that has a chip so that other keys cannot start the truck...and we even have a "theft" light that flashes....it IS NOT an alarm.

There are some remote starts that work with factory keyless entry and the factory remotes. The ones I am familiar with start your vehicle on the third press of the lock button for example. These work..but there's a problem. Range. You will get a much longer range with the aftermarket units as they put a little antenna on your windshield. The makers claim 1/4 mile. When you are standing in a warm house looking out at the snow and your factory remote's range will not reach the truck.....well, you get the idea.

One more thing....my unit came with two remotes. One is a two-way piece that confirms what is going in at the truck. If someone tampers with the truck..the remote either peeps or vibrates. If you use the non two-way remote to unlock the truck...it alerts you on the two way. When the doors lock or unlock, the remote beeps to confirm what has happened.
