I would like some advice on this subject. I recently replaced a bad TFI module but my Ranger, '87, 2.3, 5-spd, still doesn't have the power it used to. I had to take out my distributor when I replaced the TFI so I'm hoping maybe my timing is just off. I tried to put the distributor back in the spot I took it out, and made sure that the crank and cam were on the TDC marks before I took it out.
I would like to know the basic timing procedure for this engine. Is it just a matter of getting the two pulleys on the mark and getting the dis rotor pointing at the no.1 plug wire? I want my old truck to have the good get up and go that it had before these problems started.
Also, could my muffler possibly be clogged? I was running rich for a while and I'm figuring either my timing is off or my engine is choking on exhaust. The engine or something is pretty noisy (bassy) during acceration... I know the cat isn't the problem, mostly because it is currently off.
