i have a 1/03 build date
1)how do i know what flash i have and
2) what flash should i have
i know that there are some problems with some flashes
the truck runs fine except i am installing a edge/juice combo and would like to have the most recent flash so that it will work better with my edge
or am i wrong in thinking this
Unless you have documentation or a modifications decal under the hood, the only way to get the current calibration in your truck is to have it extracted using a scan tool. I am not sure if a non-Ford scanner can do this but the Ford WDS and NGS diagnostic tools can. Perhaps someone who has experience with generic scanners can answer this.
also i bought autoenginuity's palm based scanner and ford upgrade so mabey some else has used this and can tell me if it will tell me what flash i have?
You can request vehicle information from AutoEnginuity software and it will report ECM information under "CAL" and "CVN" Expand CAL and you will get a hex file name.
You may be able to submit this information to Jay, use the web's support feature, Jay is very responsive. I have had two responses from him today!
For instance:
When I was at 4U7A-12A650-BFD (Product ID) & FSM3 (Catch word)
MY CALS for:
PCM:VXBC3N2.HEX
FICM: AMZ2AL09.HEX
TCM: TQBE0NW.HEX
All I could see with scan tool was the CAL hex files; I don't know of any public resource to match these to the Product ID. You can find what the latest Product ID that is available for your vehicle at motorcraftservice.com the clicking on .. Quick Guides ... Latest Calibration Information... read and print instructions... click on latest calibration link at bottom of instructions.....
Currently I have: 4U7A-12A650-BFE and my ECM CAL is reported back as: VXBC5NA.HEX
Mine is going in the shop tomorrow for the harness and EBP recalls so I should receive a new flash.
He is the guy who will respond back to you if you use AutoEnginuity's customer support via their web site.
Get the CAL hex file name using your scan tool, the form will request your vehicle information. He can probably tell you what Ford's product id number is? He did for me earlier this year.
Had mine in today for the Harness and EBP sensor recalls.
With the new flash as part of 05E15 EBP recall, per under hood sticker I now have: 4U7A-12A650-BFG (I did have BFE) and my ECM CAL is reported back as: VXBC7A3.HEX (was VXBC5NA.HEX) using AutoEnginuity Scan Tool software.
The new EBP sensor is biased positive by about .3 psi relative to Baro or MAP @ KOEO, key on engine off. The old sensor yesterday was biased positive by 1.1 psi.
Truck feels much better from a standing start, less lag, and I think it feels stronger. Sensor replacement or flash? who knows?
Only time will tell. I know with the BFE flash it seemed as if power was down when towing my travel trailer as it was downshifting on grades that previously at the same speed it just stayed in fifth gear; this was with no head wind, etc. The cruise control also was totally worthless towing; and it worked fine before.
Now if I could just gain a mile or two per gallon!
