So does anybody know ,I 'm changing from the 390 to a 302 in my '73
F100 4x4--I'm thinking I would like some of those EZ to deal with "shorty" headers to make the exhaust routing easier...Am I going to bar-b-que my starter like I did 2x with the 390 and do I need that silly insulation wrapper on there or will there be a decent clearance? I don't want to have to go back in there for a while once she's rumblin' again...dig?

I've heard that the high-torque ministarters are better suited for use with headers. Also, you may be able to buy or fabricate a heat shield for the starter.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 19-Sep-02 AT 11:42 PM (EST)]rather than the shorties, go with the stock manifolds. You'll eliminate the heating problem, and there is really no performance gains with shorties over stock.

Just a thought.
