I have a 77 f250 4x4 that I have just set a 460 in. I have bought truck power steering and alternator brackets but I can not figure out the alternator brackets. My question is: Do any of you 460 swappers out there have engine compartment pics of your trucks? Any help, tips or pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Where did you get the brackets at? When i did mine in the same year truck I had to use the ones that were on the motor. THey're ok, but not as clean as i'd like. I will try to post some pics.
I just did a full conversion with no adapters from L&H, the alternator can easily be mounted with a couple long bolts some spacers and a swing arm. The power steering i used off of an old lincoln and which bolted right on i just changed out the hose ends for about $5.00 and it works great. i'll see if i can post a pic of mine soon.
My power steering pump bracket mounts to the water pump and head fine but I can not put a pulley on the pump for it will hit the steering box. My formed alternator bracket fits the water pump but puts the alternator too low and into my cross member. I still have the lincoln power steering pump setup but it has all the crap for an a/c compressor. The alternator brackets I still have were homemade by someone not very mechanically inclined or detail oriented (they are fugly). The truck has been sitting too long so I may just put the lincoln stuff back on until I get to look at someone elses truck. Thanks for the input.
The truck had a/c. During this engine change I removed all the a/c components from under the hood. My goal was to have brackets the didn't have provisions for a/c parts.
Ya, my 460 had air conditioning originally too, i scrapped it all and the licoln power steering setup sits right in front of the drivers side head right about where the A/C pump used to be, the sweet thing was it bolted right up (no mods) and is a peice of cake to work on now!
What do I need to do to get my alternator in a good spot? Will 460 front ends (power steering, alternator) off of an 80's pickup work in our trucks? Thanks.
Well that was easy the 460 i got came with air conditioning (pump and all) and the F-150 i put it in didn't have any ever so it all came off the eninge and went in the garbage. But what i know u can do there is either plug the existing A/Clines you aren't using or just find a different heater unit and controls from a similar model (year and such) truck.
I will take a couple close-up pics here soon of exactly how i mounted everything up, i just posted some pics of the 460 if you want to look at those, but none of them show any detail so i will take some better ones.
Thanks for the info but I have already modified and cleaned up my lincoln p.s. brackets. I have integrated truck and lincoln alt. brackets along with some bridgeport product to get the alt. mounted where I think it will be ok. Now I need to fill that gaping hole left when I removed the a/c. Thanks again.
