93 intermittently won't start
) spins all the way around, and it's really hard to get my key in sometimes. I eventually figure it out, but there's times when the car just won't start at all. It's really confusing to me, because I've never heard of something like this. There's no clicking noise, the engine doesn't turn over, it just sits there, like it's in the ACC position. The guy before me gave me a new ignition cylinder to put in, but I haven't had any luck removing the current one, and my Haynes and Chilton's manuals don't help at all, not to mention I don't even know if this is the problem. I've tried searching the forums here to no avail, so any help identifying the problem or install the stupid thing would be great.
I don't have my early 90s manual with me but you normaly put the switch in the run position and push in the release pin, mine is shown on the underside of the column. Fix it now, if it stops working when it's not in the run position you will have to drill it out.
If you do some searching under my screen name, you should find the details on how I replaced one on my former 94 back around Oct or Nov 2004. And yes, if you ignore that ignition cylinder, eventually you just may be stranded. As for the no crank condition, I'd suggest inspecting the battery cables, voltage to the solenoid, the solenoid itself, grounding, and finally the starter. I'll assume that you have checked the battery and it's good. Let us know what you find.
