Question down pipe search

Hi I am new here, but what a great site!!! I am looking for a 4" down pipe for my '96 psd 7.3 I allready have the 4" exhaust (from pipe). Had to have it replaced when I blew out a 36 superswamper ( the defective series) at 80 mph down the freeway what a mess that made under the truck. I live in southern Cali. Places only want to sell whole kit.

i have never heard of a 4" Dp for the OBS. and from what i here it wouldn't fit without caving in your firewall. 3" will be good enough. you already have to bend the firewall a bit to get a 3" pipe in there.

Thanks I have talked to some experts and they told me the same thing. I found one from a sponser here (motorhaven) for 149.00 plus shipping. Why this is more expensive than 99 and up I would like to know it not like re-inventing the wheel.

4" downpipe fits in just gotta change the outlet on your turbo to 4" and get a portapower to "fix" the fire wall. ive got a 4" in my truck i found my turbo parts from a guy over at tds i cant remember his name right now. tymar performance is the pipe i have in it right now. it was like $200 with the ceramic coating and shipping.

thbeggs is right on the money. I was only able to fit a 3" from MBRP and I still needed to "modify" my firewall. The amount of clearance you have between firewall and motor will depend on things like condition of cab mount bushings, and just the way your truck was manufactured. Either way-3" or 4", will make a significant difference from that original pancake pipe. Good luck, aloha.

funzjb1,

Get an MBRP system in aluminized or 409 stainless, it includes the 3.0 down pipe and the 4.0 system. We also have the 3.0 down pipes in aluminized and 409 stainless with cat test pipes as well if you want to save a few bucks and still free the flow rate up a lot.
