I live in Concord NH and have a 2003 F-150 with a 7.5' western plow. I have yet to see the rust on my doors but I do have some at the bottom of the tailgate. This spot gets most of the salt spray from the road. I have mud flaps on all 4 wheels. Which helps. Here a some ideas:
1. I go to car wash atleast once a month. ($10)
2. Get down rinse undercarrige atleast 1 time during the winter season.
3. Place a piece of rubber between bumper and bed on tailgate to keep salt spray from this area.
4. I use 2 products. Salt Away and fliud film to help with corrosion. I also use this on my plow when I can.
5. Mud flaps.
If you use salt away do not spray on windshield because the wipers will chatter. The product was used for saltwater boat motors to clean cooling components of salt build up. I am just trying the product so we will see over the life of the truck. There will always be rust in these regions.
