Do power convenience options decrease fuel mileage?

Extra electrical accessories cause the alternator to have to go through more charge cycles. If a alternator is charging it is causing slightly more drag on the engine than when it is not. So I think you use slightly more gas. It should be barely noticible though. It will not increase your fuel consumption enough to justify doing without your conveniences if you want them. Daytime running lights work your alternator harder than power windows and they impact your fuel mileage to the point that you use only a few gallons extra per year. Keep your power goodies. Jmho
