Power Window ? '87 Aerostar

Just about a month ago (approx.) the passenger side window on my '87 Aerostar XLT is not going completely up. There is about a 1/8" gap I'd say. Not bad, but it does let water into the Aerostar when I wash it. I can feel a draft @ freeway speed. Driver side goes up all the way, tight. Any ideas, can it be adjusted somehow? Power window goes up and down, it just does not seal tight when up. Thank You. Ed

Have you tried spraying the track with WD40. When I got my 96, the passenger side window was balky. After reading this tip on the forum, I tried it and it worked wonders. I regularly spray some in the window tracks on both sides and it works like a charm.

WD-40 is a sub-standard lubricant in this case and a more temporary solution at that.

On my cars windows (since my Aeros are manual windows) when they used to get stuck on the way up I used a can of silicone lube it dries and clings to the surface I sprayed it once in the window track (Left, Right, and Top) and haven't had to do it again. Put the hose that came with it on and place it in the track put a liberal amount don't be shy. You can make three passes with the nozzle fully pressed.

Then raise and lower the window to spread the sealant from the seals to the glass the lube will only cling to the portion of the glass in the track and silicone lube dries clear if that still doesn't solve your problem I would check your window regulator behind the trim panel.

Better yet, use some white lithium grease. It doesn't collect dust, and it stays whre you put it.

my wife would kill me if she got lithium grease from the window on her clothes.
use silicone spray. i had same problem. slow to close and not closing all the way. window motor has load resistance shutoff circuit that turns off motor when window hits extra resistance such as hitting top or dirt in track.
i wasted hours researching and tearing door apart and examining window motor and mechanism. no adjustments.
closed windows here in Pacific NW winter rains are necessity.

i silicone tracks a couple times a year now.

Posts #2 - #5, thanks guys. I have printed them out. Sometime in the next few Saturdays, I will take the trim panel off, so I can get inside the bowels of the door. A friend at work was telling me to use a piece of felt fabric, and place it under the window glass where it rests on the bottom of it's window guide (for lack of the correct term). This will raise the window glass slightly, so it should seal tight. The felt will have a little "give" with the window glass, as a bonus. he was telling me, this works for loose or vibrating windows in old vehicles as well. Seems to make sense. I have some white lithium grease, and silicone spray, to put a light lubricant film on the moving parts of the window, when I'm there. I personally, like roll up windows, as I've never had any problems over the years with one. Power windows, I always feel, you're one click away from a bad (or worn out) switch, or a window stuck in the full "up" or "Down" position! The down position will happen as it begins to rain with a cloudburst. The up position, stuck, will happen during a summer heat wave!! Thanks again, and any other ideas, please post. Ed
