engine mounts wont stay tight
OK here is the problem. i took my 77 f150 400/C-6 to the guy who rebuilt my transmission cause it would shake when you put it in reverse. he said he tried changing some stuff and that he finally found it was a loose motor mount that was causing the problem. When i got it back i noticed that the truck no longer jolted when i let off the accelerator and push on the accelerator. Yesterday i replaced both mounts and at first every thing was great then i noticed it was jolting again when releasing and applying the accelerator and it would also shake in reverse. now i took it to a mechanic today who said that the shaking was an internal tranny problem. but how do i get the mounts to stay tight. i replaced the mounts and lock washers.

my 302 would loosen it's mounts every 6 month's or so.. i put a lock nut on it ( nylon in one end of the nut) and used the lock washer too... havent' had any trouble since

THANKS for the long post! Did you replace the nuts? The OEM nuts lock with some deformed threads in them but they are only good for one reuse. Try the Lockwasher and Nylock nuts. If that doesn't hold there is always Locktite. Nylock nuts shouldn't be reused more than once either. A lot of people have, even me, you can sometimes smash the nylon ring retainer in a vise for an extra use.
