running and dash lights kaput
The obvious thing to check is the fuse. What next if the fuse is good and the contacts have been cleaned. I'm guessing that the switch might be bad but do not want to diagnos by trial and error. Thanks. Steve

The most obvious thing to check is the switch. It's common for them to fail. If the headlamps are out, check the dimmer switch, these get crusty. You can jump the dimmer by finding the power source and jumping to the low-high beam wires. if they now work, dimmer is bad. If you don't have power there, trace back to switch.
check the fuse, if good, trace to switch and see if there's power into the switch. It might be a good idea to get a wiring diagragm for your truck. Others will list where they're available on the web.

I don't believe there is a fuse for the headlights, its a circut breaker system, it turns off if there is an overload or short due to heat, the resets when it cools down.. I think the dashlights and running lights are on the same circut and are fused
