Here is a thread I found

I called Advanced Auto Parts (formerly Discount Auto Parts) and they have it stock.

Very specific suggestions for '78s:
Get a '79 distributor, and set it to about 12 degrees advance; you'll get some pinging at part throttle (10 - 6 inches Hg vacuum) but it will go away at full throttle and at highway cruise.
Plumb the distributor vacuum hose direct to the manifold - no restric tors or delay valves.
Get rid of the EGR.
Lean out carb main jets - your carb is jetted for "driveability" not economy.
These are good for 1.5 - 2 mpg.
General suggestions:
Run with the A/C off - that's worth .5 - 1.0 mpg
Be skeptical about any "mouse milk" you add to your gas tank, pour into your engine, etc. that claims to increase mileage. When in doubt check it yourself by carefully measuring every gallon you pump into the tank.

Have been driving carefully and filled up today. I've been getting 13.49mpg on city-only driving by accelerating smoothly and making the engine stay under 2000rpm, with just three lapses in that discipline in the 108 miles I measured last tank (only got it a quarter down before filling and checking). That's already better than the EPA estimate for city-only driving (they said 13), so for sure that's worth a try.
Next, I'll air up the tires to specs, maybe a pound or two extra, and see where that takes me.
And then I'll change plugs and wires, and calculate again.
And then lastly, I'll run some seafoam through the motor, oil, and gas tank and see how that goes.
Eventually, I'll also ditch the old lady exhaust and strap some cherry bombs on that mamacita, and see what that nets as well.

ok i just installed a k&n intake system on my bronco and have noticed a significant gain, i also plan on putting a 3" cat-back exaust on as i have been told by many that not only will it increase fuel mileage but power as well, last but not least 2 days ago i found a little product called the fuel genie and it garentees mileage increase or your money back so i may give that a try too, just type in fuel genie in a search engine and you will find it. hope that helps
