I am in need of the vacuum portions of my heater control switch in the cab. I contacted my local dealer since I could not find one in any catalogs I have. They informed me that they did not have a parts list for anything older than 1980. I asked if they had any books. They said no. Apparently there were no Fords made before 1980. At least that is what they think.
You are lucky to get them to admit that there were Fords prior to '90. The consumer laws say they have to support the vehicles for 10 years, after that good luck.
Your best bet is a salvage yard, even a unit from a van may work up thru 88/89? When you get one take it apart and rebuild it if you can.
Check the part number on the plastic part to see when it was designed and revised. There are links here to Ford part number breakdowns.
From what I understand, my truck originally had AC but it was removed at the factory level because it was sold in Alaska. That does not help me much now that I am living in Arizona. I wish that it had cables. I am sure that parts would be cheaper and I would be able to have it set on something besides Defrost or Heat.
I looked on the Ford Parts Look-up site and they list the vacuum switch for AC but I do not seem to be able to find the one for without AC.
Is there a Ford Internet Superstore that anyone would recommend. I am not going to deal with my local dealer who is too lazy to look things up on paper?
It appears in the shop manual that the A/C control vacuum acutated controls assembly & the Deluxe High/Low vacuum actuated control asembly are the same. [font color=red]Dennis
So does anyone know where there is a parts breakdown diagram on the internet or have one of their own. I need to find out what the part number is for this vacuum operated heater control switch that is in my 78 F150 400 C6. I can provide the vin # if it is necessary.
I only have volume 1 & 2 of the paper shop manuals so it does not have the hvac stuff. The OEM CDROM's that are sold here have the extra info in them, but you probably can't get one of those fast enuf. I have worked on enuf Fords that I really didn't "need" that info to work on my truck. Most of the full size stuff is very similar, and the minor variations I just deal with. Contact Dennis and then buy the manuals.
I purchased the vacuum assembly for my 77 with A/C from the dealer a few months ago. It's still laying on the work bench. If you "E" mail me I will get the part number off the box. It was obviouly available but had to be ordered.
